When we meet a Pitbull, its muscular anatomy and agile gaze can be a little intimidating. But contrary to popular belief, Pitbulls can be incredibly affectionate and possessive dogs when socialized and their energy is managed correctly.

American Pitbull Terrier History

American Pit Bull Terriers are a breed developed in the 19th century in England, Ireland and Scotland. Terriers were originally bred in the United Kingdom as a cross between terriers and molossers, which were bred for bullfighting and dog fighting. After these activities were banned, Pit Bull Terriers gained popularity as family dogs and farm guardians. They were initially known as Staffordshire Bull Terriers, but later split into two different breeds, Bull and Terrier.

American Pit Bull Terriers are a cross between bulldogs and terriers. Although terriers were originally used in sports such as bullfighting and dog fighting, these activities were banned in 1835 and they continued their lives mostly as farm animals and family dogs.

They get along well with children and are generally protective of family members. Despite all this, they need to be careful in their relationships with other dogs and animals, as they are extremely energetic and can be prone to unintentional harm.

Due to their high intelligence and willingness, American Pit Bull Terriers are easy dogs to train. They do not respond well to harsh or aggressive training techniques, so positive reinforcement techniques are recommended.
